They are not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. The quality of the work is really nice and I will consider hiring them in the future.

Chooz Score Insights
At the time we analyzed PhD Painting, the company held a Chooz Score of 83.2%. It has operated as a Carlsbad contractor for 14 years, has been Accredited with the Better Business Bureau since 2015, and holds an active License No. 1043872. The business is run by brothers Nathan and Trevor Delgado, and its service area covers Carlsbad and the surrounding North County San Diego communities.
Across its review profiles, the company held over 200 Google reviews with a 4.8-star rating, along with 4.5 stars on Yelp, 4.7 stars on Angi, and 95% recommended on Facebook across over 40 reviews. The ratings are strong and read consistently across every platform where the company maintains a profile.
Owner replies appear under nearly every review we read, individually written rather than copied from a template. Nathan and Trevor Delgado are both named often, usually by customers describing careful masking and a clean site at the end of each day. The consistency of prep and cleanup mentions across otherwise unrelated reviews points to a fixed standard rather than crew-by-crew variation. We found at least nine reviewers describing a second or third project with the same team. The main recurring criticism concerns scheduling, which we cover below.
"I've hired a lot of painters over the years and PhD is the only one that texted me back within the hour every single time. Nathan even followed up a week after to check the trim." - Priya M., Google Review
Advice For Future Customers
Several reviewers mention that PhD books out during the summer exterior season, so it helps to reach out well before you need the work started. Reviewers who asked for the written scope up front also describe fewer surprises, which is worth requesting. On timing, a few reviews note start dates that moved without much notice, and at least one went unanswered. Ask them directly: "If my start date shifts, how soon will you tell me and what are my options?"
"Booked us for a Tuesday, then no one showed and I couldn't get a callback until the following week. The paint job was fine once they came." - Derek H., Google Review (no owner reply)

Addressing Customer Concerns
While the overwhelming majority of feedback is positive, it's worth noting that the company received one negative review on Yelp that went unresolved. This isolated incident stands in stark contrast to the dozens of glowing reviews across other platforms, where the owner Brandy typically responds personally to customer feedback. The lack of response to this particular review represents a missed opportunity for the customer service excellence that characterizes their usual interactions.
